Who participates in a Galileat activity?
Well, in truth, almost anybody. Our Arab cooking workshops can be easily suited to the demands of the customer. If you're looking to learn about Druze or Muslim cooking, experience village life in the Galilee, or just have a fun activity that's interesting and different, then we can build a program around your needs.
The range of Galileat's activities, including Galilean cooking workshops, meals in Arab homes and guided tours of Muslim or Druze villages, allows the tourist a different view of Israel and the Galilee, one that otherwise would not have an opportunity to see. Without fail, tourists that have a Galileat Arab food experience come away saying that it not only opened their eyes (and taste buds) to a different Israel, but also was the highlight of their trip. If they do one Israeli cooking workshop, this should be it.
Galileat for Israelis
Why should foreign tourists have all the fun? There are many Israelis who have taken the opportunity to go somewhere that they perhaps never dared; into the village, and house, of an Israeli Arab and taste genuine, home-cooked Arab food. It isn't what we're used to in the restaurants! Whether you live in Be'er Sheva, Tel Aviv or even in the Galil, an opportunity to participate in a cooking workshop, where you learn to prepare real Druze or Arab food is a true Israeli experience. It doesn't matter if you're touring in the Galil, or live 5 minutes from the host, It's a great chance to see something different in Israel's own back yard.
An Arab cooking workshop and tour makes a unique gift for someone special. Or perhaps a birthday that family and friends want to celebrate in a different and interesting way? We have had a number of families who have chosen to celebrate their child's barbat mitzvah with a Druze cooking workshop. There is a large range of options, from full day celebrations, to workshop and meal, with or without a tour of the village, or even just a very special, home-cooked Galilean meal… far more original, more authentic and costing less than a meal in a restaurant.
An Arab Cooking Workshop in Arabic
Whether you speak Arabic fluently, are just learning, or can understand but not speak very well, why not try participating in an Arab cooking workshop, in Arabic? You needn't worry about understanding or being understood, the hosts all speak Hebrew if something isn't clear. If English is your mother tongue, then your Galileat representative will be on hand to translate.
A Day Out
It is common for companies to send groups of workers for a day away from the workplace. Galileat has cooking workshops for work teams, management, schoolteachers and office workers. They come back to work the next day refreshed and having learnt something about both their work-mates and preparing local Arab food.
Kosher Cooking Workshops
It is often lamented by observant Jews from overseas and Israel that they are ignored by those that organize culinary programs. At Galileat, a Druze host who's catering company has a Kashrut certificate, supervised by the local rabbinate, conducts a kosher Druze cooking workshop. The food is not his everyday catering food, but genuine Druze cuisine, as he eats at home. The cooking workshop is led by his wife and cooked, of course, by the participants. It is a unique opportunity for shomrei kashrut to cook and taste genuine Galilean food.
The most common meeting place is at the Big Centre in Carmiel. The majority of Galileat's activities take place within a 25 km radius of the city of Carmiel. There is, however, a large degree of flexibility with the meeting place. Galileat does its upmost to fit into the customer's plan, so the actual starting place will be determined in accordance to the needs of the customer
Most Galileat activities start at 10.00 a.m. but we try to be as flexible as possible, in accordance to the needs of the customer.
We have started writing “the Galilean Kitchen” cookbook, bringing all our hosts’ recipes into print. Help us produce this special book by supporting our crowdfunding campaign
